Cinch Munson, Business Development Manager at the World Liquid Gas Association, recently attended the OPIS World Chemical Forum 2024 and shared these thoughts on LinkedIn:
Three Big Picture Takeaways from the OPIS World Chemical Forum 2024
1 – The demand for traditional fuels and chemicals has not peaked and will continue to grow, as will the demand for renewable molecules. An all-the-above approach is needed to meet market needs, and serious efficiency gains are required if the demand trend is going to change anytime soon.
2 – The innovation occurring on all fronts is impressive and encouraging, from new markets to new projects to new processes…including at least one new process to produce propane and butane from chemical plant byproducts. Who would have thought that chemical engineers are smart?
3 – Liquid Gas (propane, butane, dimethyl ether, and renewable molecules of the same) is clearly the best energy choice. Okay…that may not be a conference takeaway. I’m just sayin’!
Summary: The opportunities and challenges faced by the chemical and energy industries are extremely similar…and together we will capitalize on the opportunities and address the challenges.
