The results of the highly-contested 2024 elections are still coming in. As expected, Former President Donald Trump has outpaced Vice President Kamala Harris, with the Associated Press (AP) calling the race for Trump early this morning. NPGA anticipates that a second Trump term will extend the policies of his first, focusing on rolling back regulatory burdens on industry.
Just after midnight, the AP also confirmed that Republicans have gained control of the Senate. Over the coming months, Republicans and President Trump will collaborate on federal appointments and judicial nominations. However, with the Senate requiring a 60-vote threshold for most legislation, bipartisan support from Democrats will still be necessary. As of this morning, Republicans hold 52 seats, with potential to win up to four more in unresolved races.
The House majority remains uncertain, with experts predicting it could take days or longer to determine. If Republicans retain control, they will align with the Senate and White House to push their agenda. If Democrats win, they will likely use their majority for oversight of the Trump administration and to block key GOP policies.
